Applying for a faculty position in academia is a rigorous challenge that involves several steps, among them is the "job talk" and in many cases also a "chalk talk". As if there isn’t enough stress throughout the application process, you, the applicant, are requested to craft a talk that’s presented in front of possible future colleagues and students. What’s expected of you for these talks can sometimes seem mysterious.. But note that you are not just being judged based on your nice PPT presentation or personal research project: you are also being evaluated as a potential future member of that scientific department and lecturer. To be seen as such, you need to strategize carefully in advance.
