INTRODUCTION

The objective of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) is to support the career development and training of researchers in all scientific disciplines. The MSCA implements a bottom-up approach grants to researchers at all stages of their career, from PhD candidates to highly experienced researchers, and encourages worldwide, cross-sector and interdisciplinary mobility.

MSCA FUNDING SCHEMES

Postdoctoral Fellowship (PF) - European Fellowship (EF) mode:

The PF funds individual fellows holding a PhD (‘Experienced Researchers’) and helps advance their careers and gain new skills through advanced training, international mobility, and optional intersectoral secondments. The PF are held in EU Member States or Associated Countries and are open to researchers either coming to Europe or moving within Europe. The proposal is to be built around a concrete plan of training-through-research with the supervision and support of a supervisor at a host organization.

Eligible researchers: The researcher may be of any nationality. They must, at the date of the call deadline, be postdoctoral researchers (i.e. possess a doctoral degree) and have a maximum of 8 years full-time equivalent experience in research (measured from the date of award of the doctoral degree).

Mobility rule: The researcher must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host institution for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before the call deadline.

Duration of the action: The European Fellowships (EF) mode of the PF should last between 12 and 24 months, to be spent within an EU Member State or Associated Country. If requested and justified in the proposal, an additional period of up to six months at the end of the project can be awarded to researchers who will spend that period in a non-academic organisation established in an EU Member State or Associated Country.

Further to explicit instructions received from the Weizmann top management the RGP will not endorse submissions to the Global Fellowship (GF) mode of the PF.

Doctoral Networks (DN) – Regular Doctoral Networks mode:

The DN offers support for competitively selected doctoral training programmes for researchers that at the time of recruitment by the host organisation, have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree. These programmes will be implemented by European partnerships of universities, research institutions, and non-academic organisations located in Europe and worldwide. As defined by the programme, the recruited fellows will be involved in individual and personalized research projects.

Further to explicit instructions received from the Weizmann top management the RGP will endorse submissions to the Doctoral Network (DN) regular mode only, in which the fellow will be enrolled in the PhD track at the Feinberg Graduate School. (The Industrial Doctorates and Joint Doctorates modalities will not be endorsed).

If the DN proposal is successful, you will be required to recruit a fellow who will be enrolled in the PhD track at the FGS. Please take note to verify that the proposal does not contain any foreseen requirements, concerning the selection and recruitment and the PhD track registration and studies of the fellow, which Weizmann/FGS may not be in the position to fulfil. If approved for funding, the proposal will serve as the technical annex of the grant agreement to which the project’s partners will be legally committed. Please send the proposal to the EU Desk for review at least two weeks prior to the call deadline and if required, contact the FGS Academic Secretary, Gili Vainer, for guidance on how to best accommodate the relevant specific aspects of the proposal to the FGS regulations.

Eligible researchers: The researcher may be of any nationality. Recruited DN researchers must be doctoral candidates, i.e. not already in possession of a doctoral degree at the date of the recruitment.

Mobility rule: The researcher must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting host institution for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately before their recruitment date.

Duration of the action: The duration of the action must not exceed 48 months (including the time needed to recruit and select the doctoral candidates). The duration of each fellowship (on the basis of full-time employment) is minimum 3 and maximum 36 months.

NOTE: A priori approval of the FGS that academic conditions have been met is required for intended students applying for MSCA fellowships.
Please contact Livnat Moses, Coordinator of the postdoctoral training program and external contractual fellowships at FGS, to obtain approval once the identity of the potential fellow is known:

  • For students applying for the MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships, approval should be obtained prior to submission of the proposal
  • For students applying for the MSCA Doctoral Networks, approval should be obtained before the recruitment of the student as a project fellow

MSCA Staff Exchanges (SE):

The Staff Exchanges Scheme supports the short-term mobility of research and innovation staff at all career levels including administrative and technical staff. This action promotes international and inter-sector staff exchanges within partnerships of universities, research institutions and non-academic organisations both within and beyond Europe. Academia-to-academia exchanges are permitted within worldwide partnerships.

WEIZMANN INTERNAL PROCEDURES

Internal review: Please provide the RGP with a copy of your application for review a week prior to submission and of the final submitted application for follow up purposes.

ETHICAL ISSUES

For all activities funded by the EU, ethics is an integral part of research and is addressed through an ethics review procedure to ensure that all research activities are conducted in compliance with fundamental ethical principles.
