• Backup users data and settings

• If your computer is connected to IT systems (WISMAIN\JAMF), the backup application will automatically be installed.
• All new computers install in the WIT lab will get the backup application preinstalled.

• Regular backup of your computer.
• Recovering data in case of theft or destruction of your computer.
• Recovering data in case of accidental deletion.
• Restoring information when replacing computers, transferring data from the old computer to the new one.
• Ability to return to previous versions of the files in the backup in case of deletion or encryption of information (ransom attacks).
• Ability to add personal folders to backup jobs.

The service is free for Weizmann users, up to 250GB of backup storage, and up to 2 devices per user.

Starting 1/1/2025, the charge for the inSync service will be measured based on the storage amount of the latest backup only for each computer and user. Only what's above 250GB is counted, and the price is 0.6₪ per GB over a total storage capacity of 500GB, including all backup history.

Technical Info

• Latest version backed up in (typically) nightly backup cycle, with a maximum of 10 recent (last active) copies stored over a period of 30 or 90 days (depending on period specified in IS registration). The last active copies of files deleted at the source are kept for 548 days.
• Payment is for incremental (new) data transferred to backup during a monthly billing cycle only, not for cumulative data stored on the server.

WEXAC

• Latest version backed up in (typically) nightly backup cycle, with a maximum of 3 recent (last active) copies stored over a period of 30 days. The last active copies of files deleted at the source are kept for 10 years.
• PAYG (Pay As You Go) payment, with charges based on cumulative data stored on server.

• Backup of Lab computers including its Operating System and Software
• Image based backup (Operating System and Software)

• Installed and managed by IT only

• Image can be restored to another PC that is not the original one
• Multiple Snapshots can be created per-user settings

• Long-term retention of archive files and folders, for subsequent retrieval or recovery

• Self service
• The archive is part of the WEXAC service
• To access it, you will need to register to the WEXAC service and access the path: \\data.wexac.weizmann.ac.il\lab_name-arc
• To trigger an archive, you will need to copy files/folders into your <lab_name-arc> path

• Only files over 5 MBs in size will be transferred to the archive; Small files must be packed (using Zip or similar software) into a single large file to meet the minimum size requirement
• Your files/folders will be transferred to the archive after seven days, and will occupy disk space until then
• Beyond the seven days, files will be displayed with their original names, but will actually be stub files. A stub file does not store the original file content,  and is in fact a link to the full archived file.
• Accessing actual file content requires a retrieve operation from the archive. This is done via a Copy/Open file operation, with files retrieved from the archive after they are opened
• The path  \\data.wexac.weizmann.ac.il\lab_name-arc quota is 2 TBs
• Archive is for 10 years
