Chapter 3: The Gaussian Wavepacket
In this chapter, we will look at the motion of Gaussian wavepackets of the form
and its generalizations. If the potential energy function, V(x), is no higher than quadratic, an initial Gaussian wavefunction will stay Gaussian
for all times. Gaussian wavepackets are useful not only for potentials up to quadratic, but also as the basis for approximations for anharmonic potentials.
