Azrieli Institute for Brain and Neural Sciences

Making sense of sensation

The Azrieli Institute for Brain and Neural Sciences champions bold neuroscience projects across a wide range of research domains, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration both between Weizmann labs and with external clinical and academic partners.

Leading scientists supported by the Azrieli Institute for Brain and Neural Sciences include Prof. Noam Sobel from the Department of Brain Sciences, who is collaborating with clinicians at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center (Ichilov Hospital) to probe the validity of a non-surgical therapy for epilepsy via olfactory stimulation. The potential impact of this breakthrough approach could bring remarkable benefits to patients and their families.

Also a member of the Department of Brain Sciences, Dr. Michal Ramot is using powerful 7-Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to investigate how individual differences in neural activity associated with interpreting social cues can give rise to differences in social behavior. This research holds substantial implications for addressing and overcoming mental illness.
