Azrieli Institute for Brain and Neural Sciences

A thriving network of neuroscientists

The Azrieli Institute for Brain and Neural Sciences comprises 12 integrated research centers, dedicated to exploring the human brain and fostering multidisciplinary collaboration. A clear demonstration of such cross-departmental partnership and outside-the-silo thinking was seen in 2024, when one-third of research proposals submitted through the annual flagship call came from scientists outside of the two “main” neuro departments (Brain Sciences and Molecular Neuroscience).

Funding and awards

  • 36
research proposals funded out of nearly 60 submissions.
  • 3
senior graduate students awarded the Neuroscience Research Prize, for outstanding contributions through innovative research.
  • 5
travel grants awarded to grad students and postdocs to support participation in summer schools and international workshops.
  • 20
trainees participated in the flagship’s new 6-week science writing workshop for students and postdocs.

Educational outreach

  • 500
children (ages 5 and above) attended the annual Brain Awareness Day event, hosted in partnership with the Davidson Institute of Science Education.
  • 12
volunteers (from graduate students to staff scientists) developed research demonstrations and hands-on activities for Brain Awareness Day.
