Vaccination policy in WIS

Population

Vaccine

Titer test

Employees/students who work with animals (rodents, monkeys, fish, birds, etc.) and those who work with Diphtheria toxin. Diphtheria-Tetanus (DT), every 8 years.

Antibody titer should be tested if only 2 out of 3 shots are documented,. If the titer is above 10 mili international units, the third shot is still required. If under 10 mili international units re-vaccination is required (all 3 shots).

Employees/students who work with vaccinia virus.

Vaccinia (smallpox vaccine), every 3 years. There are  strict guidelines who can be vaccinated (contact biosafety officer). Nurse/physician evaluation of the reaction to the vaccine 7-9 days after vaccination.
Plumbers, employees/students who work with sewage samples or human/monkey fecal samples.

HBV (3 shots), HAV, Polio (every 10 years), Tetanus (every 8 years)

Vaccination procedure and financial refund

  • The PI and employee/student should fill in the Annual Safety Program (ASP) form the relevant risk factors/vaccinations.
  • The employee/student should receive the vaccine in their clinic, pending a physician evaluation, and send the papers to Yaffa Shahar (occupational health coordinator) for documentation.
  • Payed vaccines will be fully refunded pending on submitting a receipt. The receipt should first be signed by the occupational health coordinator (Yaffa Shahar, who will document the vaccine) and then submitted to human resources to obtain the refund.
  • Non-payed vaccines should be reported to the occupational health coordinator for documentation.

Tuberculosis monitoring

Employee/ students who work with monkeys should be annually monitored for tuberculosis. Monitoring includes a mantoux test and a chest x-ray, in case of a positive mantoux test. Veterinary resources are responsible for surveillance, treatment and documentation. Veterinarian Dr. Avishag Tuval is responsible for referring the employee, documentation and annual monitoring. Department administrator is responsible for financial refund by human resources division.
