We have explored a possibility of using oligonucleotides from the family MER1 of interspersed repeats as PCR primers for amplification of human genomic DNA. Those we are now recommending have been selected from release EMBL databank of nucleotide sequences by means of computer analysis. Computer selection is based on the distance measure between oligonucleotides, adopted for the PCR model. Computer program uses a dynamic algorithm and able to select distinguishing long oligonucleotides in whole EMBL subbases (like human and rodent sets) in resonable time. We have also demonstrated the use of one of the oligonucleotides in specific amplification of human DNA .
