Older versions of Microsoft Office no longer support the full functionality of connecting with Outlook to Exchange Online (which is part of Microsoft 365). To maintain full Exchange Online functionality, currently installed versions of Microsoft Office must be upgraded to Microsoft Office 365.

Installation Instructions 

Microsoft 365 upgrade on Windows

Minimum system requirements:

  • Processor: 1.6 GHz and up.
  • Operating system: Windows 10 and up.
  • RAM: 4 GBs of free memory.
  • Storage: 10 GBs of available hard drive space.

 

Installation of Microsoft 365 on Windows computers using the SCCM Software Center

To install Microsoft 365 via SCCM, perform the following:

  1. Launch Software Center (start typing Software Center in the Windows search box, either directly on the taskbar or via the Windows Start menu, and click the application's icon once it appears in the search results).

  1. In Software Center, click the Office 365 icon.

  1. Click Install to initiate installation.

Wait (approximately 20 minutes) for installation to complete, as installation progress is displayed.

The installation process will remove the previously installed version of Microsoft Office.

Microsoft 365 will then be installed.

Once notified of the installation having completed, the new Office application versions will appear on the Windows Start menu, and you may continue to work as usual. OneDrive may require Microsoft Office sign in to perform synchronization.

  1. On launching an Office application (Microsoft Word, as shown in the example below), go to your Account settings, then click Fix me.

  1. Enter your primary Institute e-mail and password in the Microsoft login window that appears, and click Sign in.

  1. On the next window to appear, click No, sign in to this app only.

From this point on, you’ll be able to access your OneDrive-synchronized files via all Microsoft 365 Office applications.


Manually installing Microsoft 365 on Windows computers

To manually install Microsoft 365, perform the following:

  1. Connect to the shared Software folder, and to the Office 365 folder within it, by pressing Windows+R to invoke the Windows Run command, entering \\wisfiler.weizmann.ac.il\collaboration and clicking OK on the window that appears, then entering your Institute user ID and password. Click to navigate into the Software folder on the window that appears, then into the Office and Office 365 folders.

  1. Launch OneOffice.exe and click Install to proceed with installation (which requires approximately 20 minutes).

The installation process will remove the previously installed version of Microsoft Office.

Microsoft 365 will then be installed.

Once notified of the installation having completed, the new Office application versions will appear on the Windows Start menu.

  1. On launching an Office application, sign in to Office with your Institute e-mail address and password on the Microsoft login window that appears, to fully activate it.

  1. On the next window to appear, click No, sign in to this app only.

Once signed in, you’ll be able to access all Office applications as usual.

 

Microsoft 365 upgrade on Mac

Minimum system requirements (Microsoft 365 Office version 16.63):

  • Processor: Intel/M1.
  • Operating system: MacOS Catalina version 10.15 and up.
  • RAM: 4 GBs of free memory.
  • Storage: 10 GBs of available hard drive space.

 

Microsoft 365 Office installation is performed via the Weizmann Self Service facility. During installation, the existing version is updated and the installed license is removed. Once complete, you will be required to sign into Microsoft 365.

 

To install Microsoft 365 on your Mac, perform the following:

  1. Access the Weizmann Self Service facility.

  1. Perform a search for the Microsoft Office 365 installer by entering office in the search field, and when it shows up on the right-hand side of the window, click Install.

 

Wait (approximately 20 minutes) for installation to complete.

 

Once installation has completed, the new Office application versions will appear on the Dock.

  1. On launching any new Office application version (Microsoft Word, as shown in the example below), you’ll be required to sign in via the Microsoft login window. Enter your primary Institute user ID’s e-mail address in the appropriate field, and click Next.

  1. In the next sign in window, enter your Institute e-mail address and password, and click Sign in.

The software application will then launch, and you’ll be able to proceed to work as usual.

  1. Note that when first launching Microsoft 365 Office applications, you may be presented with a window requesting that you confirm the terms of Microsoft’s privacy policy. Click OK to do so.

  1. Following installation, it is recommended that you check for any available updates via the Check for Updates command on Microsoft 365 Office applications’ Help menu.
