Advancing Alzheimer’s Research
Special events
The Institute celebrated a major gift by the Adelis Foundation to support Prof. Michal Schwartz’ research on Alzheimer’s disease. One of Prof. Schwartz' key contributions to the field is the concept of "protective immunity": that the immune system plays a central role in maintaining brain health and combating neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer's. She identified a specific gateway within the brain’s blood cerebrospinal fluid barrier that permits the entry of immune cells into the brain when they are needed for repair following acute injury or neurodegenerative damage.
