The Hellen and Martin Kimmel Award for Innovative Investigation was bestowed on Prof. Nachum Ulanovsky of the Department of Neurobiology at the Annual General Meeting of the International Board on November 7.

Prof. Ulanovsky discussed his research on the brain’s spatial navigation—its “GPS”—which he investigates in bats, with major implications for understanding the human brain.

The award is given annually to a scientist to allow him or her to develop outside-the-box ideas that might not otherwise be supported by traditional funding agencies, which typically award grants to projects in later stages of development.
