Dr. Ellen and Harvey Knell of Los Angeles were honored for their establishment of the Knell Family Center for Microbiology, at a luncheon during the International Board week.
Prof. Rotem Sorek, of the Department of Molecular Genetics, will head the new center. The Knell Family Center for Microbiology will support research to defy superbugs by solving antibiotic resistance, as well as research on microbiota—in human biology and the environment.
Mr. Knell serves on the American Committee’s Board of Directors, and is the Vice Chair for Financial Resource Development. In addition, he has served as the chair for the American Committee’s 75th anniversary “Transforming Tomorrow” campaign.
