The Mexican Friends for the Weizmann Institute of Science hosted a webinar on “Beyond the Higgs boson” with speakers from Israel and Mexico on October 18, which was attended by 80 people.
Dr. Shikma Bressler of the Department of Particle Physics and Astrophysics, who heads the “Kushner family Particle Detectors Laboratory”, spoke about her research. From Mexico, renowned particle physicist Dr. Gerardo Herrera Corral, a professor in the Department of Physics at CINVESTAV (Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute) and author of several popular science books, spoke as well.
The two scientists worked together at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, on the building blocks of matter.
Silvia Baum de Gerson, President of the Mexican Association of Friends, opened the session with a brief welcome and described the historical connection between the Mexican friends and the project at CERN. Journalist José Gordon moderated the event, which was simultaneously translated by Martha Flisser.
Martin Kushner, a nuclear physicist by training who generously supports Dr. Bressler laboratory, gave closing remarks.
