Research

We are walking the fine line (or geodesic) between quantum optics, magnetic resonance and condensed matter physics, with the aim of employing ideas and algorithms from the forefront of quantum information theory to our sensor, an atom-sized defect in diamond. This defect, known also as the nitrogen-vacancy (NV) center, has several unique properties, making it an exceptional solid state, single-spin system. Scroll below to read more about current projects in our group.

An image blended by the gifted Ingmar Jakobi depicting a nanoscale NMR experiment, with a green laser excitation, a microwave co-planar waveguide, a PFPE molecule, a small cube for a permanent magnet, and of course, a diamond
A sketch, beautifully blended by Philipp Scheiger, showing a nanopillar array in diamond hosting NV centers. On the top of one of the nanopillars there is a molecule, and an AFM tip with a permanent magnet is in its close proximity
