The Weizmann Institute's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) oversees and evaluates all aspects of the Institution's animal care and use program, as prescribed by the Israeli national Law for the Protection of Animals - Experiments with Animals (1994).

The Institute's IACUC is certified by the Israeli Ministry of Health’s Council for Experimentation on Animals since 1997, has a current certification by the National Institutes of Health’s Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW), and is fully accredited by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) since 2007, and the use of experimental animals at the Institute is in complete accordance with:

  • The Animal Welfare Law (Experiments with animals)
  • The Regulations of the Council for Experiments with Animals
  • The Weizmann Institute Regulations
  • The Guide for the Care and Use of Lab Animals, National Research Council, 2010
  • The Guidelines for the Care and Use of Mammals in Neuroscience and Behavioral Research

Forms and Assurances

Research protocols are to be submitted for review to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) (at least 4 weeks should be allowed for processing). Only heads of research groups (Senior Scientists or higher) may submit applications.
