Microbial Physiology in the Ocean

To understand how our laboratory findings apply to real-world environments, we conduct studies using environmental samples. These samples are analyzed to identify the various microbial participants, their chemical interactions, and the ways in which they influence one another. By studying marine samples, we can assess the importance of our laboratory findings and identify new areas for research. Ultimately, our goal is to understand how microscale processes that we study in the lab can have global impacts on biogeochemical cycles.
