Life on Campus

The Weizmann Institute of Science is a leading international multidisciplinary research institution. The beautiful, landscaped campus is home to a wide range of sculptures, interesting and unusual vegetation from around the world, and architectural styles from the 1940s to the present.  Guided campus tours (walking and motorized) are available from the recently renovated Levinson Visitors Center and include the Clore Garden of Science and Weizmann House. The Institute is home to a number of cafes, so feel free to stop for a bite to eat and enjoy a wonderful day on campus.

 

  • Learning Hebrew

    Learning Hebrew

    Learning Hebrew, while not essential on campus, will help you with your integration into Israeli society. It empowers and enables you to feel more comfortable in social settings, and everyday life such as dealing with doctors, going to the supermarket, etc. We offer beginner and intermediate Hebrew lessons as subsidized courses on campus for our international community and their spouses, and advanced lessons in small private groups.     Bike Share

    Our Bike Share Program provides free & easy access to bicycles for use on campus and in town. Checking out a bike takes no time at all - the bike is yours for two full working days (48 hours) and did we mention that it's FREE!?     David Moross Fitness Center

The campus is home to exciting attractions that you can explore and enjoy all year round.

  • The Clore Garden of Science

    The Clore Garden of Science is a unique, entirely outdoor science museum, the only one of its kind worldwide.

    Its 800 square meters of green lawns are home to nearly 80 hands-on exhibits large and small. The carefully built displays demonstrate the laws of physics, solar energy, waterpower and other natural phenomena that we take for granted every day. Natural elements such as sunlight, wind and water play an important role in many of the Garden's displays. These hands-on exhibits come to life only when a curious visitor twists, pushes, bounces and pieces them together.

    Among the fascinating exhibits at the Clore Garden of Science are a solar furnace that can instantly set wood on fire, water sprinklers that surround you with a full-circle rainbow, an exhibit that simulates walking on the moon and a water channel that shows the physics of wave action. The EcoSphere is a unique new educational facility, inviting visitors to explore environmental phenomena and interrelationships within the ecosystem.

    The Garden gained international fame when it was awarded the 1999 Award for Innovation by the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) in partnership with BBH Exhibits, Inc.

  • Levinson Visitor Center

    The state-of-the-art Levinson Visitors Center is the gateway to the Institute, giving visitors a window into the unique nature of the scientific investigation and discovery at the Institute. Visitors will learn about the central role the Weizmann Institute plays in Israeli science and technology.

    The Center contains technologically advanced exhibits and a state-of-the-art multimedia presentation that take the visitor on a journey of knowledge and discovery, where one can learn about the fascinating world of scientists who uncover the secrets of nature and decipher the codes of the universe.

  • Weizmann House

    Weizmann House, the original home of Dr. Chaim Weizmann and Dr. Vera Weizmann, was built in 1936 next to the Sieff Institute founded by Dr. Weizmann in 1934, which later became the Weizmann Institute of Science.

    The house was designed by a well-known Jewish architect, Erich Mendelsohn, who left Germany when the Nazis rose to power.  Weizmann House was Mendelsohn's first work in Israel. Upon the election of Dr. Weizmann to the presidency of the new State of Israel, the house became the official residence of the President of Israel.  After Dr. Weizmann’s death, the official residence moved to Jerusalem.  The Weizmanns donated the estate, the house and its contents to the State to preserve the heritage of the first President.  The first renovation, generously funded by the Clore Foundation, was completed in 1978, and the house was opened to the public as a museum.  In 1999, the house, its contents and the grounds underwent further restoration and preservation to restore them to their original condition.   The restoration work was planned and supervised by the architects Hillel Shocken and Daniel Assayag, with a donation from the Yad Hanadiv Foundation.
