Rachel Joelle Bruch
Rachel is the first cellist of the orchestra, having joined in December 2022. She studied music and violin from the age of 5 at the Académie Caribéenne de la Musique in her native island. After making Aliyah in 2017, she started learning the cello.
After studying light-matter interaction, she pursued a doctorate in observational astrophysics. Currently, she is a post-doctoral researcher at Tel Aviv University and the Weizmann Institute, focusing on the search for nearby and young supernovae.
Monika Witzenberger
Monika is a Postdoc passionate about the RNA world and the fusion of science and art. She started playing the guitar at age 8 and picked up the cello at 12 because the school orchestra was in desperate need of a cello player. With the very same orchestra and a repertoire ranging from Mozart to Hans Zimmer, she toured China, Italy, and Romania. After a ten-year break, Monika is back to playing cello in the Weizmann orchestra. Additionally, she is not only experimenting with RNA modifications, but also with acoustic jazz guitar.
Rita Levin
Rita Levin studied cello for nine years at the School of Music in Leningrad (Soviet Union). After coming to Israel (Aliya), she didn’t play the cello for 30 years. However, during the COVID-19 quarantine four years ago, she rented a cello and resumed playing. Now, she is delighted to be part of our special orchestra.
In her free time outside of music, she works at the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health.
