Flute

Shakked Schwartz

Shakked is the principal flutist of the Weizmann Orchestra and one of its founding members. She has been playing the flute for over 16 years and studied music at Wizo School of Arts in Haifa, where she played in the orchestra and various chamber music ensembles.

In her academic life, Shakked is a chemist pursuing her PhD in the group of Prof. Michal Leskes at the Weizmann Institute of Science. She studies Li-ion dynamics on electrode surfaces using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy to facilitate the rational design of high-performance Li-ion batteries.

Alina Heukamp

Alina is originally from Germany and is currently a PhD student in the field of neuroscience, where she studies the visual system of mice.

She started studying music as a child and picked the flute at an early age as her instrument, and later also learned to play the trumpet. She played in various school orchestras and a trombone choir, but with university studies becoming more time-consuming, she spent less time playing music. Nevertheless, the flute had to be in the suitcase to come to Israel. When the Weizmann orchestra opened up, it was a perfect opportunity to get back to music. In the Weizmann orchestra, she now plays the flute and occasionally the piccolo.

In her free time, she goes hiking and spends time outdoors, travelling, or testing the acoustics of different microscope rooms in the department by rehearsing in the middle of the night.

Lil Shindler

Lil’s musical career kicked off at the age of nine when she chose the flute as her school instrument. Since then, she has played in several orchestras and even one jazz band. Music has always been a true passion of hers, making the Weizmann Orchestra a perfect fit.

When she’s not busy fluting around, Lil trades in her flute for a lab coat, studying burned bones. Sadly, these aren’t dinosaur bones (yet), but who knows, maybe one day she’ll stumble across a T. rex bone suitable for its very own grand symphony!
