Policies - Amet
General policies
- No food or beverages are permitted near the spectrometers or workstations.
- No sample preparation in the NMR Lab.
- Do not leave your NMR tubes in the NMR Lab.
- If a sample breaks in the magnet, contact the NMR lab staff immediately so the probe can be cleaned. This will minimize probe damage from corrosive solvents.
- All users must follow the scheduling restrictions of the NMR lab, and register in advance.
- Non-standard experiments/ probe change must be scheduled with the NMR lab staff in advance.
- Do not change any NMR probes or reconnect any RF cables.
Facility Schedule (maintenance)
Liquid nitrogen fills are performed once a week:
- AVIII-800, Tuesdays morning (08:00-10:00)
- AVANCE NEO-600, NEO-1000: Mondays morning (08:00-10:00)
Liquid helium fills normally render the instruments unstable for a few hours. Fills generally occur once in 6 weeks (800, 1000 MHz) to once in 3-4 months (600 MHz). If you are scheduled for an instrument on that day, a warning note will appear.
A guide for new NMR Users
Our high-resolution NMR spectrometers are normally operated in two ways:
- By trained users: The AVIII-800, AVANCE NOE-600 and AVANCE NEO-1000 instruments are accessible to anyone who has been trained on their use by the NMR lab staff, performing work for their own research groups. Each authorized-user account is given a special permission for scheduling time on the instruments (via Internal Services) as well as a userid for login to the instruments.
- As a service: A liquid NMR service is provided for both WIS staff (Internal NMR Services) as well as for external users (External NMR Services).
