Clinical Experience

Clinical Experience and Training at the Weizmann Institute of Science MD-PhD Program

The Weizmann Institute of Science MD-PhD Program in honor of Miriam and Aaron Gutwirth offers a unique and comprehensive curriculum designed to provide students with extensive hands-on experience in both clinical and research settings. Our program is structured to equip future physician-scientists with the skills needed to excel in both patient care and biomedical research.

Medical Education

Our clinical training begins from the first day of studies and continues throughout all years of education, including during doctoral studies. The school has committed itself to place the patient at the center of both treatment and research. This integrated approach fosters critical thinking skills and enables students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world clinical and scientific scenarios with guidance towards innovation and entrepreneurship. By emphasizing early clinical exposure, combined with scientific thinking and problem-based learning, a holistic understanding of medicine develops that integrates scientific rigor with compassionate care.

Clinical Rotations

The clinical training component of our program is modeled after the rigorous standards seen in top medical schools worldwide. Students will undergo 66 weeks of clinical rotations across various medical specialties, ensuring a well-rounded clinical education. These rotations cover essential departments including Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology, Psychiatry, Surgery, Neurology and Family Medicine and an additional 15 week rotation in the ward of the student’s choice.

Partner Hospitals & HMO Clinics

We have established agreements with most of the hospitals in Israel, including Sheba Medical Center, Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center - Ichilov, Clalit Health Services, Assuta Ashdod and Rambam Health Care Campus. These collaborations ensure that our students receive top-notch clinical training in diverse and dynamic medical environments.
