The Weizmann Institute of Science MD-PhD Program in honor of Miriam and Aaron Gutwirth is dedicated to supporting its students financially throughout their academic journey. Our scholarships are structured to alleviate financial burdens, allowing students to concentrate on their studies and research. Recognizing that a stable and supportive financial environment is crucial for academic and research success, we are committed to providing comprehensive financial support. Additionally, each student receives a laptop from us, ensuring they have the necessary tools to engage in their studies and research.
Monthly Fellowships for MD-PhD Students
Students enrolled in the Weizmann Institute of Science MD-PhD Program in honor of Miriam and Aaron Gutwirth are entitled to a monthly fellowship. Recipients of these fellowships are expected to dedicate their time fully to studies and scientific research.
Type of Fellowship:
• MD-PhD program for BSc/MSc graduates
9,000 NIS per month until the completion of pre-clinical studies and PhD requirements.
After receiving official certification of PhD requirement completion, the fellowship increases to 11,500 NIS per month.
For more information, please visit the Weizmann School of Science page on fellowships and aid.
Extended financial support may also be provided for maternity leave, military reserve duty, or prolonged illness.
Principles Governing Fellowships
- External fellowships (competitive and non-competitive) either replace the regular Weizmann Institute of Science fellowship or fund part of it. They are not awarded in addition to the regular MD-PhD fellowship.
- External vs Weizmann Institute of Science Fellowship: Weizmann Institute of Science fellowships and external fellowships may not be awarded simultaneously. If the external fellowship is higher than the regular Weizmann Institute of Science fellowship, the student keeps the balance. If it is lower, the difference is paid up to 120% of the regular Weizmann Institute of Science fellowship.
Travel Allowance
All MD-PhD students are entitled to a travel allowance of $4,250 (paid in NIS in two installments during their studies). The Weizmann School of Science travel allowance is not provided to students with an external fellowship that includes a higher travel allowance. If the external allowance is lower, the balance is provided by the Weizmann School of Science.
Termination of Fellowship Payment
Fellowship payments cease if:
- The degree is officially approved.
- The student is no longer at the Weizmann Institute of Science.
