Admissions Procedures

Join a cutting-edge MSc program that attracts top students from all over the world

As a student at the Weizmann School of Science’s MSc program, you’ll be exposed to both the best of science and the best of education. Students at the Weizmann School of Science are involved in the research conducted at the Institute, working directly with research groups at the forefront of their fields internationally. The Weizmann School of Science charges no tuition and provides all MSc students with full scholarships that enable them to completely devote their time to scientific research and study.

Acceptance to the MSc program at the Weizmann School of Science involves an admissions procedure that usually takes between four to twelve weeks to complete. Classes at the WSoS are conducted in English, and admission is open to applicants of any religion, race, color, national origin, age, disability or gender. The school, which includes individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs, is proud of its diverse student body.

The screening process

For details about how to submit an MSc application, see How to Apply for MSc Studies. After you submit your application, a screening process begins, which involves the following steps:

Stage 1

The Weizmann School of Science office sends your completed application file to the relevant Board of Studies for review. The review process may take several weeks.

Stage 2

The Chair of the Board of Studies recommends one of the following options: (a) Acceptance; (b) Rejection; or (c) Invitation for an interview or exam (see Interview with the Admissions Committee)

Stage 3

The Chair forwards a recommendation to the Dean of the Weizmann School of Science. If an interview is required, the Chair waits to receive feedback from the Admissions Committee before submitting a recommendation to the Dean. The Dean evaluates your file and decides whether you are accepted to the program.

The Weizmann School of Science strives to complete the admission process for all students by June, though in many cases the process is completed earlier in the year.

Interviews

Note: Not all candidates are required to have an interview.

As part of the screening process, you may be invited by the Board of Studies for an interview with the Admissions Committee. The Admissions Committee includes between one and four scientists in the field of study to which you applied. Interviews usually takes place two to three weeks after the Board makes a decision.

After the interview, the Admissions Committee sends an evaluation to the Chair of your Board of Studies, who makes a decision regarding your suitability to the program.

Interviews usually last between thirty and sixty minutes, depending on the area of study. During the interview, you will be expected to demonstrate your knowledge of the subject matter and be ready to answer questions about any research project experience that you have. The Admissions Committee is interested in evaluating other parameters, as well, including your reasoning capabilities, creativity and analytical approach.

Notification of acceptance

If the Dean of the Weizmann School of Science decides to accept your application to the program, you will be sent a letter of acceptance to the MSc program.

Administrative registration

After you receive a letter of acceptance, you can complete your administrative registration. This is generally done during the summer months.

As part of the administrative registration process, you will be asked to sign a form of consent concerning intellectual property rights. No student is allowed to start studies or receive a fellowship without signing this form.

Upon completion of registration

When you complete your administrative registration, you are required to have your photograph taken and undergo safety training, and you are entitled to a confirmation of studies document, student card and vehicle entry pass.

Safety training

As a new student, you are required to attend safety training even if you had similar training at another institution. An obligatory safety course is offered annually in the first week of the first semester. For more information, see the Department of Safety, which coordinates safety training.

Confirmation of studies

On the first day of the first semester as a new MSc student, you will receive a document confirming your status as a full-time student.

Vehicle entry pass

Entry stickers for cars can be obtained from WIS Security, located at the ground floor (room 15) of the Raoul and Graziella de Picciotto Building for Scientific and Technical Support.

Student card

Information concerning the student card and how to get it is available on the Student / Fellow Card page under Services in this website.

In case the application had been rejected

If your application was rejected, you may consider submitting a letter of appeal. The Weizmann School of Science will review the appeal and reevaluate your candidacy.

Keep in mind that the number of MSc positions allocated to the Weizmann School of Science each year is limited, and at times the school is forced to reject candidates because the number of suitable candidates exceeds the number of available positions. If your application was rejected for this reason, you are entitled to submit your candidacy for the following year.

The Weizmann School of Science has a waiting list that remains in effect until the first day of classes. In the event that a new student relinquishes his or her place, a different candidate will be invited to join the program instead.
